Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Suahasil Nazara as the country’s new finance minister, making him the third person to hold the position under his administration in less than two years.
Outgoing Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa formally handed over the post to Suahasil on Tuesday, September 15, following his dismissal as the government seeks to restore investor confidence amid concerns over fiscal policy.
Suahasil, a former academic who has served as deputy finance minister since 2019, was among several senior officials sworn into office.
Prabowo’s fiscal policies have faced increased scrutiny, particularly after his government raised fuel subsidies following a surge in global crude prices. The move has added to concerns over funding for costly government programs, including its free school meals initiative.
Purbaya had replaced former Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati in September 2025.
