Ugandan prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma took part in traditional midnight rituals in Fort Portal on September 29, 2026, ahead of his formal coronation as king of the Tooro Kingdom.
Supporters carrying flaming reed torches accompanied him to Karuziika Palace while chanting traditional songs.
At the palace, guards and supporters staged a ceremonial confrontation symbolizing the prince’s takeover of the royal residence.
Clan elders later joined further rites before Rukidi took his seat on the throne, while musicians and cultural dancers performed as part of the celebrations.
Rukidi was chosen by the royal clan to succeed the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
He is set to be formally crowned as Omukama, or king, of the western Ugandan kingdom.
