Typhoon Dujuan battered eastern Japan with heavy rain and strong winds on Monday, September 21, triggering landslides and evacuation orders across Tokyo and surrounding areas.
Japan’s weather agency issued its highest-level emergency warning for flooding and landslides in Oshima and the Izu Islands.
Evacuation orders covering about 1.67 million residents across Tokyo and nearby prefectures had been issued as of 3 p.m. local time, according to Japanese broadcaster NTV.
In Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a woman in her 60s was reportedly trapped after mud and debris flowed into a house, prompting a rescue operation.
