Typhoon Dujuan approached Japan’s Pacific coast on Monday, September 21, bringing torrential rain and strong winds while raising the risk of flooding and landslides across Tokyo and other parts of eastern Japan.
Japan’s weather agency warned that conditions could worsen rapidly as the typhoon moves near the Kanto region. Some areas have already recorded more than 300 millimeters of rain since Saturday, while authorities warned that intense rain bands could trigger flash floods and other disasters.
The storm has also disrupted the Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture, where organizers postponed the equestrian eventing competition until Tuesday because of the approaching typhoon.
