Mayon logged a "moderately explosive" eruption on Friday, Oct. 30, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to raise the volcano's alert level.
PHIVOLCS said the event took place at 11:53 a.m.
An ash plume rapidly rose three kilometers above the crater.
Following the event, an alert level 3 was raised over the volcano.
In its noon advisory before the eruption, PHIVOLCS said Mayon -- which was under alert level 2---had logged 101 volcanic earthquakes including 18 volcanic tremors one to eight minutes long.
A fair crater glow could also be seen by the naked eye, the advisory said.
Sulfur dioxide flux was at 1413 tons per day.
PHIVOLCS the reminded the public that sudden steam-driven phreatic eruptions could occur.
Rockfalls or landslides and lahar during heavy and prolonged rainfall were possible, it added.
