Aerial waterbombers were deployed Thursday, October 15, to fight the fast-moving Bryson Fire, a wind-driven wildfire burning in the hills east of Malibu, California.
The fire broke out shortly before 5 p.m. local time. According to local media reports citing the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the blaze had burned approximately 200 acres, or 81 hectares.
Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for several areas of Malibu as firefighters worked to contain the flames.
Meanwhile, large plumes of smoke were seen rising from Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base on Thursday, prompting temporary road closures and evacuations.
A fire alert posted on the military base’s official social media page at around 3 p.m. local time warned of power outages and potential threats to infrastructure.
The blaze, identified as the Henderson Fire, burned approximately 1,118 acres. Evacuation orders within the base were later lifted by 7 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities continued monitoring the fires as crews worked to control the blazes and protect nearby communities and infrastructure.
