MANILA, Philippines — The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in Quezon City has temporarily limited walk-in admissions at its emergency room after reaching full bed capacity.
The hospital said the measure is meant to prioritize patients who need urgent medical attention and immediate admission, amid a high number of patients and rising leptospirosis cases.
NKTI advised patients seeking non-emergency or elective care to coordinate with their doctors or consider other hospitals with available beds.
The situation comes as leptospirosis cases continue to be a concern following heavy rains and flooding, as the disease can be contracted through contact with water or soil contaminated by the urine of infected animals.
