According to the NHC, Simon was located about 315 kilometers south of Manzanillo on Friday afternoon, moving slowly toward the northwest.
The storm could bring a significant impact to Mexico’s Pacific coastline. Meteorologists have drawn comparisons with Hurricane Lidia in 2023, which damaged thousands of homes and devastated crops along the Jalisco coast.
The latest warnings come just a week after Hurricane Polo struck the Baja California Peninsula as a Category 2 storm, toppling trees and utility poles, flooding streets and damaging property.
Authorities continue to monitor Simon’s movement as coastal communities prepare for possible landfall and the threat of heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides.
