Floodwaters in Bangkok began to recede on Sunday, September 27, but several streets remained flooded as residents went out to buy food and other essential supplies.
Residents were seen wading through waist-deep water while carrying groceries. Some used boats to move around flooded streets, while vehicles continued to pass through the water, creating waves.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said rainfall had eased, allowing authorities to speed up efforts to drain canals and reduce water levels. Officials said the flooding is expected to gradually subside if no more heavy rain falls.
Bangkok received nearly 300 millimeters of rain within 48 hours through Saturday, flooding major roads and leaving some vehicles partially submerged. Authorities have prepared 233 temporary shelters and moved around 4,200 people to safer areas.
