The United States has ordered non-government emergency personnel and their families to evacuate Saudi Arabia, effective October 23, due to growing safety concerns.
In a recent advisory, the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh cited ongoing Houthi drone and missile strikes targeting civilian airports and critical regional infrastructure as the primary driver behind the departure mandate. U.S. government employees now require special authorization to utilize Saudi airports following the recent escalation in attacks.
The embassy has also warned American citizens traveling or residing in the kingdom to prepare for potential further strikes, sudden airspace closures, flight cancellations, and severe travel disruptions.
The heightened security measures reflect intensifying hostilities between Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen's government.
Observers note that this flare-up has opened a volatile new front connected to the broader U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
