(REUTERS) Actor Tom Cruise, as "the most powerful man in the world" Digger Rockwell, shows off some impressive ball skills in a new FIFA World Cup trailer released by Warner Bros. for upcoming dark comedy "Digger."
The trailer shows 64-year-old Cruise transformed into the character, an eccentric oil tycoon with thinning grey hair, a beer belly, a Southern American accent and a fondness for cats, controlling the ball through headers and juggling, before spinning it on his forefinger.
The football then changes into a globe as Digger says to the camera: "I play with a much, much bigger ball, and I don't play just to win. I play to dominate." The trailer ends with some gravity-defying moves in front of his white cat, before Digger hits the ball with a shovel at the camera lens.
In the movie, Rockwell inadvertently unleashes an ecological disaster that carries the world to the brink of nuclear war, before scrambling to try and save the planet.
Speaking at a CinemaCon convention in April, Cruise said it took four decades of acting to get to a place where he could portray the character.
"The movie is wild, it's funny, and I can't wait for you all to see it," he added.
Also co-starring Riz Ahmed, "Digger" is set for release on October 2.
