Thailand’s government declared September 28 and 29 special holidays for civil servants in Bangkok and three nearby provinces after heavy rains caused widespread flooding and traffic disruptions.
Nearly 300 millimeters of rain fell over 48 hours, prompting Bangkok authorities to declare the capital a disaster-affected area.
The government said the holidays aim to reduce travel, although essential government work may continue.
Thailand’s Constitutional Court also confirmed that its scheduled September 28 ruling on a case involving ballots from the February election will proceed despite the holiday.
Floodwaters began receding on Sunday as rainfall eased, though some residents remained stranded in their homes.
