Britain’s King Charles has called for recognition of historical suffering and injustice as he addressed a youth rally in Nassau, the Bahamas, on Monday.
Speaking at Clifford Park, the monarch reflected on his previous visit in 1973, when he represented his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the country’s independence celebrations. He recalled witnessing the Bahamian flag being raised for the first time, noting that more than five decades had passed since the historic occasion.
Charles said acknowledging past injustices was important even as the country celebrated its present achievements and worked toward a better future.
His remarks came at the start of his Caribbean tour, amid growing calls from regional leaders for Britain to address its historical role in the transatlantic slave trade.
