Britain’s King Charles arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday, October 27, marking the start of his Caribbean tour, which includes visits to Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda.
Charles was welcomed by Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis and Governor-General Dame Cynthia Pratt. He is accompanied by Queen Camilla on the tour, which runs until November 4 and includes the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
The visit comes amid growing calls from Caribbean nations for Britain to pay reparations for its role in the transatlantic slave trade. The issue is expected to be raised during the Commonwealth gathering, which brings together leaders from 56 member countries, many of them former British colonies.
