Authorities in Nepal urged residents to evacuate areas along a river after a landslide triggered flooding that swept away homes and bridges, leaving five people missing.
The landslide blocked the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district, about 100 kilometers west of Kathmandu. The army rescued 49 people, including one foreigner, while rescue teams continued monitoring the area.
The flood destroyed around a dozen houses, damaged bridges and affected a hydroelectric project camp. Officials warned residents in several downstream districts to move to safer locations as the muddy floodwaters spread.
No deaths had been reported as of Sunday.
