More than 100 foreign trekkers are stranded in central Nepal after floods washed away hiking trails and bridges, an official said Monday.
The flooding followed a landslide that blocked the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district, about 100 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Authorities rescued 96 people, including nine foreigners, while five villagers remain missing.
The flood also destroyed homes and damaged three hydroelectric plants. Rescue operations continued Monday as authorities worked to help stranded trekkers return safely.
