Sky watchers in Rio de Janeiro turned their eyes upward on Thursday (August 27) to witness a partial lunar eclipse visible across most of the Americas.
The celestial show reached its peak at GMT 4:13 as Earth moved directly between the Sun and Moon — casting its shadow onto the lunar surface.
Nearly the entire Moon, 96.3% of it, was covered by Earth's shadow during the event, which could be seen throughout most of the Americas, with the exception of Alaska and northwestern Canada.
