One Filipino who was injured in the drone attack against an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf on Oct. 7 is now recovering in the hospital, the Department of Migrant Workers said on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The Department of Migrant Workers said the Filipino, who was a crew member of ACER, is receiving medical treatment in Hamad General Hospital in Doha.
He had been rescued by Qatar Navy and the Qatar Coast Guard after three drones reportedly attacked the vessel.
The Migrant Workers Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Office visited the seafarer in the hospital and provided him with clothing and other forms of assistance.
"The team will continue to monitor his medical condition and coordinate the necessary welfare support to facilitate his recovery and eventual repatriation," the DMW said.
Meanwhile, it said the local manning agency confirmed the 24 other crew members of ACER are safe and en route to Dubai, where the vessel is expected to anchor.
"The DMW through MWO and OWWA Qatar remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Filipino migrant workers and seafarers overseas, particularly those affected by emergencies and maritime security incidents," the DMW said.
"The Department will continue to coordinate with relevant authorities and concerned agencies to ensure that affected Filipino seafarers receive the necessary assistance and support," the DMW added.
