41 more bodies recovered from fire-hit MV June Aster

    Death toll now at 76

    September 12, 2026 11:45 pm

Authorities recovered 41 more bodies from the ill-fated MV June Aster, the Philippine Coast Guard announced on Saturday, Sept. 12.

With the retrieval, the death toll from the tragedy rises to 76.

The PCG said the 41 additional remains will be transported by BRP Cape Engaño on Sunday.

According to the PCG, based on the ticket manifest of 134 individuals, 13 remain unaccounted for while two reported they did not board the vessel.

    There are 43 survivors.

"This figure may still change as recovery and identification operations continue," the PCG said.

MV June Aster is owned by DBP Leasing Corporation and is operated by Atienza Interisland Ferries Inc.

It was on its way to Coron from Baseco in Manila when two explosions occurred and a fire broke out in the early hours of Sept. 9.

The Department of Transportation has said the vessel is so far aground near an island some 1.5 nautical miles from the Port of Coron.
