Philippine Army commanding general Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete is the incoming 61st chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The Department of National Defense made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, July 21.
Nafarrete will replace General Romeo Brawner Jr., who is retiring today.
According to DND Spokesperson Arsenio Andolong, Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran, meanwhile, who is currently at the helm of the Western Mindanao Command, will assume the Philippine Army commanding general post.
"The DND congratulates Lieutenant General Nafarrete and Lieutenant General Gumiran on their appointments and looks forward to their leadership in upholding professionalism, excellence, and dedicated service to the Filipino people," Andolong said.
Naferrete graduated from the Philippine Military Academy, from the “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990.
He served as commander of the 1st Infantry Division and was at one point also chief of Wesmincom.
