Cambodian authorities incinerated 5,000 kg (11,000 lbs) of seized illegal drugs on Tuesday (July 21) in a public ceremony marking the country's commitment to stamping out narcotics trafficking.
The event was held in Ponhea Leu district of Kandal province, and was organised by Cambodia's National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) in cooperation with local provincial authorities.
The drugs, predominantly MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) and methamphetamine, were seized during 2025 operations in Kandal and Kampong Chhnang provinces as well as the capital, Phnom Penh.
Officials said the ceremony sent a clear message of zero tolerance to traffickers, with the government reaffirming its vision to build a drug-free Cambodia.
Cambodia does not have a death penalty for drug trafficking, though trafficking over 80 grams of illicit drugs can result in life imprisonment.
