FARNBOROUGH, England — Philippine Airlines (PAL) has placed an order for nine Airbus A350-1000 widebody jets, with purchase rights for five more, accelerating its post-restructuring international expansion.
The announcement at the Farnborough Airshow comes just a day after the flag carrier ordered 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners (with options for five more)—marking its first major Boeing order in over two decades.
PAL President Richard Nuttall said the first batch of the newly ordered A350-1000s is scheduled for delivery by early 2030.
The ultra-long-haul aircraft will primarily serve high-demand North American routes, supported by the large Filipino diaspora.
The aggressive fleet renewal follows PAL’s successful exit from U.S. Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of 2021.
The airline is positioning itself for major international growth ahead of planned airport developments in the Philippines and its upcoming entry into the global oneworld Alliance.
