MANILA, Philippines — Motorists faced another fuel price hike as new oil price adjustments took effect on Tuesday, raising gasoline prices by ₱3.65 per liter, diesel by ₱10.68 per liter, and kerosene by ₱11.77 per liter.
The latest adjustment prompted transport group MANIBELA to renew its call for a ₱2 increase in the minimum jeepney fare, saying the current fare no longer covers the rising cost of operations, particularly the continued increase in diesel prices.
MANIBELA said jeepney drivers have been struggling with successive fuel price hikes and warned that it may stage a nationwide transport strike if the government does not act on its petition. Analysts also said the latest increase in fuel prices could eventually lead to higher prices of goods and services as transportation and distribution costs continue to rise.
