Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that overnight strikes targeting civilian areas in Zaporizhzhia involved North Korean ballistic missiles, warning that Moscow is preparing for further escalation rather than peace.
In a post on X, Zelensky condemned the attack on Zaporizhzhia, describing it as a "vicious attack, calculated to inflict maximum damage specifically on civilian infrastructure." Local authorities reported that six people were killed and 19 others were injured in the region following the strikes.
The barrage also impacted multiple other regions across the country. In Kyiv, Zelensky reported that a strike damaged an infectious disease hospital. Further south and east, attacks on power substations in Kherson and Kharkiv triggered widespread power outages.
Zelensky urged international allies to respond swiftly with stronger sanctions and increased air defense capabilities, highlighting the deepening military ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.
"Every step Russia takes—increasing ballistic missile production, bringing in North Korean equipment, preparing for mobilization—all of this shows that Moscow is preparing not for peace, but for escalation," Zelensky said.
