Nagpaalala si Senate-Judge at presiding officer Chiz Escudero sa mga Senator-Judge na higit pa sa pag-convict o pag-acquit ang kanilang tungkulin sa impeachment trial.
Ayon kay Escudero, dapat magpasya ang bawat Senator-Judge batay lamang sa record, Konstitusyon, mga panuntunan, at mga panunumpa, at sa paraang karapat-dapat sa tiwala ng publiko.
Aniya:
“That obligation rests upon every Senator-Judge: to decide solely upon the record, under the Constitution and the rules, and in a manner worthy of the confidence of the people to whom this Court is ultimately accountable.”
Dagdag pa ni Escudero, ang tungkulin ng impeachment court ay tiyaking naisasagawa ang hustisya.
“More than convicting the guilty and acquitting the innocent, the business of this Court is to assure fulfillment of the promise that justice shall be done and is done—and that is the only way for this Court to obtain an acquittal from the bar of public opinion.”
