INCHEON, South Korea — A massive fire has blazed for more than 52 hours at a major Coupang e-commerce fulfillment center in Incheon, drawing an all-out national emergency response to combat dense smoke and structural collapse risks.
The fire broke out early Saturday morning on the sixth floor of the three-tier facility and quickly spread, fueled by highly flammable household products, paper boxes, and plastic packaging.
All 121 workers inside successfully evacuated during the early stages of the fire, and no civilian casualties have been reported.
Jeon Jae-in, Chief of the 119 Disaster Response Division at Incheon Seobu Fire Station, stated that extreme temperatures and zero visibility have made entry impossible, forcing crews to use a "three-dimensional" strategy combining ground forces, ladder trucks, and drones.
Nearby factories have been ordered to evacuate over fears the building might collapse, and an investigation into the cause will begin once the fire is fully extinguished.
