Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned that Europe faces an increasingly serious risk of a wider military conflict as Russia’s war in Ukraine continues.
Fico said escalating military activity and increasingly strong war rhetoric in Europe could heighten the risk of the conflict spreading. He also expressed concern that an incident such as a drone incursion could trigger NATO’s collective-defense commitments.
The Slovak leader said he would work to prevent his country from being drawn into an armed conflict, while acknowledging Slovakia’s obligations as a NATO member. His comments come amid broader concerns over European security and NATO’s preparedness as the Ukraine war continues.
