Indonesian Navy divers recovered three bodies from the sunken Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea on Friday, September 18, as 126 passengers remain missing.
The passenger ship was carrying 243 people when it capsized in bad weather while traveling from Surabaya to Banjarmasin. Nine people have been confirmed dead and 108 survived.
Strong currents forced divers to suspend Friday’s underwater search, with operations expected to resume Saturday.
Authorities have also begun efforts to move the vessel into shallower water and turn it upright to make further search and recovery operations easier.
