"Queenie" is nearing typhoon category, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
PAGASA said the severe tropical storm is so far located 575 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
It is packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and has a gustiness of up to 135 km/h.
It is moving west northwestward at 10 km/h.
PAGASA said that while "Queenie" is unlikely to directly affect the country's weather, up to moderate seas are expected over the seaboards of Isabela, the northern seaboard of Batanes, and the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental.
"Queenie" is expected to continue decelerating while turning northward in the next 12 hours.
It will then turn north northeastward by tomorrow morning.
