Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has approved the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board's recommendation to implement the fare hike for public utility vehicles that was suspended in March.
The DOTr said the fare increase that will take effect on Monday, Sept. 28, covers jeepneys, TNVS, buses and airport taxis.
Under the fare adjustment, the DOTr said the following specific increases will be implemented for jeepneys:
For public utility jeepneys - P1 increase from P13 to P14 for the first four kilometers with an additional P2 for every succeeding kilometer
For modern jeepneys - P2 increase in the base fare, from P15 to P17 with an additional P2.40 for every succeeding kilometer
The DOTr has yet to release guidelines on the other PUVs covered by the directive.
"Itong umiiral na pamasahe sa PUVs, ito na yung pamasahe bago pa man yung fuel crisis. Kaya hindi na ito sapat para magkaroon ng maayos na kita yung ating mga driver at operator," Lopez said.
"Napapanahon na itong dagdag-pasahe para masiguro rin nating sapat ang mga PUV sa kalsada at may masasakyan ang ating mga komyuter," he added.
