Signal Number 1 has been raised over parts of Luzon as the low pressure area west of La Union developed into a tropical depression on Tuesday night.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the following areas are under the tropicaI cyclone wind signal, with the center of of TD "Maymay" is so far located 130 km west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union:

"Maymay" is so far packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and has a gustiness of up to 70 km/h.
It is moving east northeastward at 10 km/h.
PAGASA said the southwest monsoon and the periphery of "Maymay" will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of Luzon and Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental today and tomorrow.
The same conditions will prevail over most of the country on Thursday.
PAGASA said a gale warning is in effect over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon.
"Maymay" is forecast to intensify while approaching the landmass and may reach tropical storm category in the next 12 hours.
"After making landfall, MAYMAY will weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low pressure area by Thursday afternoon or evening," PAGASA said.
