(REUTERS) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday (July 19) strikes on Iran — the ninth consecutive day of attacks — were "in honour" of American military personnel killed in Jordan and Iraq.
The latest casualty was a service member killed on Saturday (July 18) in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian attack drone.
Earlier in the weekend, the US military said two service personnel had died in Jordan and that a third was missing. On Sunday, Central Command said unidentified remains had been found at the site of Friday's attack and that an examination to verify them was under way.
The latest casualty announcements brought the total number of U.S. military personnel killed since the war began to 17, with more than 420 others wounded.
