A school in central Bangkok stepped up security on Monday (August 10), deploying metal detectors for the first time to screen students following a deadly school shooting.
A 14-year-old student shot dead at least six people and himself at Debsirin Nonthaburi School on Friday after killing his grandparents at home, police said — the worst mass shooting in Thailand in nearly four years.
The shooter fired at least 26 bullets using a gun that belonged to his grandfather. An additional 34 rounds were found.
Along with those who died, more than 20 people were injured in Thailand's worst mass shooting since 2022, which has reignited debate over firearms control in Southeast Asia's largest gun-owning nation.
