A yellow alert was raised over the Visayas grid on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said the alert is in effect from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The NGCP said the declaration of the alert was due to the unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1 and TVI 2 and the emergency shutdown of KSPC 1 yesterday due to a suspected boiler tube leak.
The NGCP said eight plants are on forced outage in August, one plant has been in that condition since July, three plants since June, seven plants since May, one plant since March, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, twi plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021.
Nine plants, meanwhile, are running on derated capacities, for a total of 901.9MW unavailable to the grid.
The NGCP said available capacity is at 2,516 MW while peak demand is at 2,292 MW.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement, the NGCP said.
