KATHMANDU, Nepal —A massive flood swept through a village in Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the China-Tibet border on Wednesday, August 26, after a collapse of mud and rock triggered torrents of water and debris.
Homes, roads and hydropower facilities were destroyed, while residents near the Bhote Koshi River were urged to move to higher ground.
At least 157 bodies had been recovered, while more than 400 tourists, including around 340 foreigners, were reported missing.
Officials said an earthquake may have triggered the collapse, but the cause remained unconfirmed. A mudslide also struck a border crossing in Tibet, with authorities warning of possible casualties.
