There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following the strong earthquake that hit Chiapas, Mexico, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said on Friday, July 17.
According to PHIVOLCS, "hazardous tsunami waves" are possible for coasts located within 300 km of the earthquake epicenter.
No action is required, it said.
A magnitude-7.4 earthquake hit the southern coast of Mexico, near Puerto Madera on Friday.
The tremor shook buildings in Guatemala, and was felt in El Salvador, international reports said.
No damage has been reported so far.
