Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said he is willing to visit North Korea if requested, revealing that South Korean President Lee Jae Myung had asked whether he could help open dialogue with Pyongyang during their meeting in Seoul in April.
Prabowo said he accepted the idea, citing Indonesia's long-standing policy of maintaining good relations with all countries and avoiding interference in other nations' domestic affairs.
South Korea's presidential office said it believes Indonesia and other countries that maintain friendly ties with both Seoul and Pyongyang could play a constructive role in promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula. The statement comes as President Lee continues efforts to improve relations with North Korea, despite repeated offers for dialogue being rejected by Pyongyang since it declared South Korea a "hostile nation" in 2024. Prabowo has previously expressed willingness to mediate international conflicts, including tensions involving Iran.
