Top seed Alex De Minaur began his Washington Open title defense with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Stefano Tsitsipas on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
De Minaur overcame a strong challenge from the Greek, who entered the tournament fresh off his title win in Gstaad and had dominated their previous meetings, to secure a place in the next round.
Elsewhere, Taylor Fritz advanced after defeating Poland's Kamil Majchrzak 6-3, 6-4, while Lorenzo Musetti also moved on with a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 win over Alex Vukic. The three victories completed another busy day of action at the ATP Washington Open as the tournament continued in the U.S. capital.
