Kim Taehyung, better known by his stage name V (뷔), is a South Korean singer, songwriter, actor, and member of the globally renowned boy band BTS. Recognized for his deep baritone voice, expressive stage presence, and artistic creativity, V has become one of the most distinctive performers in the Korean music industry.

Born on December 30, 1995, in Seo District, Daegu, South Korea, Taehyung spent much of his childhood in Geochang County, where he was primarily raised by his grandparents while his parents worked. As the eldest of three siblings, he has often spoken about the important role his family played in shaping his character, particularly his father, whom he considers his greatest role model.
Inspired by his father's encouragement, Taehyung developed an interest in music at an early age and began learning the saxophone during middle school with dreams of becoming a professional musician. Although he initially envisioned a career as a saxophonist, his growing love for singing eventually led him to pursue life as a performer.
He attended Korea Arts High School, where he studied alongside fellow BTS member Jimin, graduating in 2014. Even after achieving international success, Taehyung remained committed to his education, earning a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University in 2020. He later continued his studies by pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media at Hanyang Cyber University, reflecting his interest in understanding both the creative and business sides of the entertainment industry.
Taehyung's journey to BTS began unexpectedly. While accompanying a friend to a Big Hit Entertainment audition in Daegu, he was encouraged by a company representative to audition himself. Despite having no preparation and never intending to try out, he impressed the judges with his natural talent and became the only applicant from the regional audition to be accepted as a trainee.
Before BTS officially debuted, Big Hit Entertainment kept Taehyung hidden from the public while gradually introducing the other members. The decision earned him the nickname "the secret member," a period he later admitted made him feel both nervous and isolated, fearing he might not debut with the group. His identity was finally revealed only days before BTS made its official debut on June 13, 2013.
Choosing the stage name "V," which stands for "Victory," Taehyung debuted as one of BTS' vocalists, dancers, and visuals with the release of "No More Dream," the lead single from the group's debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool. His rich baritone voice quickly became one of BTS' defining characteristics, adding warmth and emotional depth to the group's music. As BTS evolved into one of the world's biggest musical acts, Taehyung also became increasingly involved in the creative process. He received his first songwriting credit on "Hold Me Tight" before contributing to tracks such as "Fun Boyz," "Stigma," and "Blue & Grey," showcasing his ability not only as a vocalist but also as a songwriter and composer.
His solo work further demonstrated his artistic identity. Songs such as "Stigma," "Singularity," and "Inner Child," released as part of BTS' albums, highlighted his expressive vocal style and emotional storytelling. Outside the group's releases, he explored a more personal sound through original tracks including "Scenery," "Winter Bear," "Sweet Night," "Snow Flower," and "Christmas Tree," earning praise for blending jazz, R&B, soul, and indie influences. In 2023, Taehyung officially launched his solo career with the release of Layover, featuring songs such as "Love Me Again," "Rainy Days," and "Slow Dancing." The album reflected his appreciation for vintage-inspired music and showcased a softer, more intimate side of his artistry.
Beyond music, Taehyung has continued to express himself through various creative pursuits. In 2016, he made his acting debut in the historical drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, portraying the cheerful and loyal Suk Han Sung. He also collaborated with fellow BTS member Jin on the drama's original soundtrack, "It's Definitely You."
Outside of acting, he is known for his love of photography, fashion, painting, interior design, and visiting museums, often sharing these interests with fans. His photography alias, "Vante," inspired by photographer Ante Badzim, reflects his appreciation for visual storytelling beyond the stage.
Among Taehyung's most memorable contributions to BTS' relationship with its fans is the phrase "Borahae" ("I Purple You"), which he introduced during a fan event in 2016. Explaining that purple is the final color of the rainbow, he described it as a symbol of trust and enduring love between BTS and ARMY. The phrase has since become one of the group's most recognizable expressions worldwide and remains a meaningful symbol of the bond shared between the group and its supporters.
Taehyung is also known for his gentle personality and close friendships within the entertainment industry. He is a member of the Wooga Squad, a group of friends that includes actors Park Seo-joon, Park Hyung-sik, Choi Woo-shik, and singer Peakboy. Fans likewise adored his beloved Pomeranian, Yeontan, who frequently appeared in livestreams, behind-the-scenes content, and public appearances, becoming a familiar companion throughout much of his career.
