To millions of fans around the world, Kim Seokjin, better known as Jin, is more than just a member of BTS. Behind his worldwide fame is someone whose warmth, humor, and sincerity have made him one of the group's most beloved personalities.
Born on December 4, 1992, in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Jin originally dreamed of becoming an actor. He studied Film Studies at Konkuk University before a chance encounter with a talent scout from Big Hit Entertainment led him down a completely different path. Although he had little formal singing experience at the time, he embraced the challenge, trained tirelessly, and debuted with BTS on June 13, 2013 as one of the group's vocalists.
Although Jin is often recognized for his striking visuals and the nickname "Worldwide Handsome," fans admire him just as much for his personality. He is known for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and ability to make those around him laugh. His signature "dad jokes" have become a favorite among ARMY, but behind the comedy is someone who has consistently helped lift the group's spirits during difficult moments.
As the oldest member of BTS, Jin has naturally taken on a caring role within the group. During their early years together, he often cooked meals for the members in their dorm, seeing it as a simple way to look after everyone. His thoughtful actions, whether big or small, have earned him the respect of both his bandmates and fans around the world.
Outside of performing, Jin enjoys spending his free time fishing, cooking, and playing video games. These hobbies offer him a chance to unwind from the demands of his career. He has also expressed his love for animals and previously cared for several pet sugar gliders, which became well-known among fans.
Jin comes from a close-knit family and has an older brother, Kim Seok-jung. Together, they once co-owned a Japanese restaurant in South Korea. Despite achieving worldwide success, Jin has stayed humble and continues to express gratitude to the people who have stood by him throughout his career.
In December 2022, Jin became the first BTS member to begin South Korea's mandatory military service. After completing his service, he returned to the spotlight with renewed energy, continuing his solo activities while preparing for BTS's future projects as a group. His return was warmly welcomed by fans who had eagerly awaited his comeback.
Over the years, Jin has proven that being an artist is about more than talent alone. His kindness, resilience, humility, and unwavering support for those around him have made him an inspiration to millions. While his voice and performances continue to captivate audiences, it is his genuine character that truly defines why many fans consider Kim Seokjin the heart of BTS.
