NEW YORK — K-pop superstars BTS have announced that they will not submit their music for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, saying they hope their songs will be appreciated beyond regional and language classifications.
The group’s seven members, RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, shared a joint statement expressing gratitude to fans and emphasizing their desire for their music to be heard for its artistry rather than being categorized by origin. The announcement came after the Recording Academy introduced new Grammy categories, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which some fans criticized as creating further separation for Asian artists.
BTS has earned five Grammy nominations throughout their career but has yet to win an award. The group returned to the music scene earlier this year with ARIRANG, their first album following the members’ completion of South Korea’s mandatory military service, reaffirming their continued impact on the global music industry.
