Some performers captivate audiences with flawless technique, while others leave a lasting impression through the emotions they bring to every stage. Jimin of BTS has become known for both. With every performance, he combines remarkable precision, expressive artistry, and genuine sincerity, making him one of the most admired performers in K-pop today.
Born Park Jimin on October 13, 1995, in Geumjeong District, Busan, South Korea, he discovered his passion for dance at an early age. He studied modern dance at Busan High School of Arts, where he ranked among the top students in the department. Recognizing his exceptional talent, one of his teachers encouraged him to audition for Big Hit Entertainment, a decision that would ultimately change the course of his life.
After successfully passing the company's audition in 2012, Jimin moved to Seoul and transferred to Korean Arts High School, where he balanced his education with the demanding life of a trainee before graduating in 2014. He later earned a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University and continued his studies through the Master of Business Administration in Advertising and Media program at Hanyang Cyber University Graduate School, reflecting his commitment to learning even after achieving international success.
Jimin's path to becoming a member of BTS, however, was far from certain. As one of the last trainees to join the group, he had one of the shortest training periods before debut. He has shared that there were moments when he questioned whether he would make the final lineup, pushing himself to practice tirelessly in order to keep up with the other members. His determination ultimately paid off when BTS officially debuted on June 13, 2013.
As BTS' main dancer and lead vocalist, Jimin quickly earned recognition for his graceful movements, distinctive vocal tone, and captivating stage presence. Drawing from his background in modern dance, he approaches every performance as more than choreography. Each movement, facial expression, and note becomes part of a story, allowing audiences to connect with the emotions behind the music regardless of language or culture.
Beyond performing, Jimin has gradually established himself as a songwriter. While BTS members RM and SUGA are known as the group's primary lyricists and producers, Jimin has contributed to the creative process through songs such as Promise, Friends, Christmas Love, and Letter. He also received writing credits on multiple tracks from his solo albums FACE and MUSE, using his music to explore themes of identity, vulnerability, healing, and self-discovery.
Away from the spotlight, Jimin is admired for his warmth and compassion. His fellow BTS members have often described him as someone who remembers even the smallest details, regularly checks on those around him, and never hesitates to offer comfort during difficult moments. His generosity extends beyond the group, with many of his charitable donations becoming public only after recipient organizations acknowledged his support, reflecting his preference to help quietly rather than seek recognition.
Jimin has also been candid about the personal struggles he faced during BTS' early years, particularly his battles with self-confidence and body image. Instead of hiding those experiences, he has spoken openly about them, allowing fans to see a more vulnerable side of himself. His honesty has inspired countless people around the world, reminding them that growth comes not from chasing perfection but from embracing one's imperfections with courage.
Today, Jimin continues to evolve as both an artist and an individual. From a young dancer in Busan whose dream nearly ended before it began to a global performer admired by millions, his journey is defined by resilience, passion, and authenticity. More than his talent alone, it is his ability to connect with people through empathy, humility, and heartfelt expression that continues to make him one of the most beloved artists of his generation.
